Ray-Ban Wayfarer Models and Variants: What to Check Before Buying

Distinguish Wayfarer model codes, colourways, lens options and sizes instead of assuming every listing describes the same frame.

How this guide is built: It explains what to compare from published product information. PowderedPurple has not physically tested the frames discussed here. Retailer listings can be incomplete or change; verify the exact item with the seller before purchase.

“Wayfarer” is a family name, not a complete product identity

Start with the model code and the full colourway code. The retailer catalogue includes the RB2140 Original Wayfarer and other Wayfarer models, with different listed frame colours, lens options and sizes. The official Ray-Ban product page also identifies an RB2140 by its model code, colour code and size. These details matter more than the broad family name.

Compare a variant on the fields that change

Check the exact model, colour code, frame and lens colours, polarisation, frame measurements, barcode or SKU, and the seller’s current product URL. Do not assume that a product image for one colourway represents another. A “polarised” model name is not interchangeable with a listing that says it is non-polarised.

Use the product page as a checked record

PowderedPurple profiles link to the retailer’s South African listing and show the source date. They describe the published record; they are not hands-on reviews and do not establish comfort, fit or optical performance. If a product page points to a different variant, use the linked source and its identifier to check the mismatch before buying.

Where to compare

Use the frame-measurement guide for sizing, the polarisation guide for lens trade-offs, and the product catalogue for the currently recorded listings. Confirm current availability, prescription options, price and returns with the retailer.
